At Family Camp, we provide a balanced program for all ages to enjoy: for adults, a popular resource person will lead workshops on the topic for the week; for children, a wide variety of counselor-led activities give kids a taste of what Children’s Camp is like. Most important, the session is about families spending time together.

Our Journey with Animals and Nature

With Jennie E. Taylor

The Edgar Cayce readings often advised us to spend time in nature. Why? The benefits given were both healthful and spiritual. This week at Family Camp, join Jennie E. Taylor as we explore the symbiotic relationship we have with animals and the natural world. Gain a greater understanding of our purpose here on earth, and how our fellow earthlings and the kingdoms of the earth are here to help. Participants will have an opportunity to test out Cayce’s advice for communing with a tree! There is no better environment to explore this topic than A.R.E. Camp!

Taylor has been a student of the Edgar Cayce readings for over 30 years. A long-time employee and current Director of Marketing at A.R.E., she also spent nine years as a volunteer at the Virginia Zoological Park, and 11 years as a director at an international animal welfare nonprofit. Her deep love and compassion for all animals inspired her to research the Cayce readings on this topic where she discovered the role animals and nature play in our spiritual path, as well as the possibility of their having their own spiritual journey and afterlife. She is currently working on a book on this topic while honing her animal communication skills.

A.R.E. Camp provides a unique setting where families can play games, sing, hike, and enjoy a campfire together – they can pray and meditate together too.

During the mornings, children are grouped by age to attend counselor-led activities while grown-ups meet with the resource person to discuss a relevant and interesting topic related to material from the Edgar Cayce readings. All other activities are designed for the whole family to attend together. Grandparents, Aunts, and Uncles – All are welcome at Family Camp!

Too much on your To-Do List? This week at Family Camp, we will find ways to incorporate prayer and meditation into our busy schedules. Combining the latest research on the workings of the brain and a variety of religious and cultural traditions, Karen will help us discover what techniques work best and develop tools to make it easier to take time for spiritual practice. Using small group discussion, prayer journaling, and active meditation exercises, along with the material from Edgar Cayce's readings to the first Study Group and Glad Helper Prayer Healing Group (262 and 281), we will create a step by step plan to better manage our attitudes and emotions, while transforming our relationships in the process.

PARENTS: Family Camp can provide a positive experience for a young or first-time camper. If your child is not yet comfortable with attending a two-week Children’s Camp - or even our new, shorter “Cayce Kids” session, he or she might truly enjoy coming for Family Camp. After experiencing Family Camp, kids usually want to come back for more on their own!
